Full fibre broadband connections offer the fastest and most reliable speeds available, and in March 2018 the government committed to a £67m Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme.

Gigabit vouchers can be used by small businesses and the local communities surrounding them to contribute to the installation cost of a gigabit capable connection. Businesses can claim up to £3,000 against the cost of connection either individually or as part of a group project.[separator]

Trio Telecom has been appointed as one of the nominated suppliers to offer the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme[separator]

About the scheme

The purpose of the scheme is to increase the speed of deployment of full fibre networks within the UK and to encourage suppliers to invest in gigabit capable services. The scheme provides micro-grants in the form of vouchers to support the cost of new connectivity. The voucher is a benefit to eligible small and medium businesses and in some circumstances residents, who must receive the full value of the voucher

Full fibre networks are the future and getting ready for a gigabit speed is a key step for most businesses.

Demand for greater and greater digital connectivity is set to accelerate in future years and full fibre connections will be able to support that demand: Online business applications and internet connected devices; cloud data storage, cyber security systems and back-ups; streamed services such as video and music; voice and video conferencing; and flexible working for employees with access to company systems.[separator]

The Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme is supplier-led. This means suppliers will be requesting the voucher on behalf of their customers.

Trio Telecom, as a registered supplier, can provide the vouchers for businesses to take advantage of the scheme.

The value of the voucher will contribute to the build cost of installing a full fibre connection at the customer’s premises.

If you are a small or medium sized business, you may be able to get a gigabit voucher worth up to £3,000 to upgrade your business broadband to a fast and reliable connection over gigabit capable infrastructure.[separator]

Am I eligible?

The scheme is available for small to medium sized enterprises.

A small to medium sized enterprise is defined as one that employs fewer than 250 people and has an annual turnover not exceeding €50 million, and/or an annual balance sheet total not exceeding €43 million. This includes sole traders.

You must not have received more than the permitted amount of de minimis aid in the last 3 years.[separator]
