What exactly is IoT?
In the broadest sense, the term IoT encompasses everything connected to the internet, but it is increasingly being used to define objects that “talk” to each other. Simply put , the Internet of Things is made up of devices – from simple sensors to smartphones and wearables – connected together over the internet.[separator]
Examples of IoT ?
The Internet of Things refers to connected objects that are able to collect and exchange data in real time using sensors, software, WiFi and SIM cards to connect, such as smart watches, thermostats, house alarms, cars, traffic lights, refrigerators, vending machines and more appliances can all be connected to the IoT. Essentially, IoT devices are mini computers, connected to the internet.[separator]
What technologies are used for IoT?
Cellular (3G/4G/5G) SIM cards, Bluetooth , Wi-Fi. , RFID and Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWANs) which are the new phenomenon in IoT[separator]
What are the most common IoT applications?
Most of us know about Smart Home devices which use our wifi to connect to the internet such as smart speakers and home security. Some towns are developing Smart City using Wide Area Networks ( think public wifi) . Many of us are using wearables such as fitness trackers connecting via Bluetooth, and many industries use Cellular (SIM cards) to communicate with machinery and collect equipment data such as vending machine, alarms, traffic lights .[separator]
Cellular IOT ?
IOT devices often require “data only” SIM cards to connect to the internet. To avoid network coverage issues, IOT SIM cards offer “all network roaming” , so your devices remain connected at all times, using whichever mobile network provides the strongest coverage.
Trio Telecom offer ‘industrial grade’ SIM cards. Our rugged SIM cards can operate in more harsh environments and are more resistant to vibration, corrosion, extremely high or low temperatures. Our Multinet SIMs offer roaming connectivity across multiple networks, on a single SIM. This could be UK-only roaming, European and US. Our SIMs are completely network agnostic, which means they have the ability to access the best network at any location.[separator]
