Fibre Broadband is rolling out and switching is easy…

The rollout of Fibre broadband is gathering pace with over 95% of all UK households now able to get faster broadband. If you are still labouring under slow broadband, especially if working remotely, you should check to see if a faster service is available. Switching providers is easy, and Trio telecom offer a free check service.

What are the options?

Superfast Broadband – FTTC

Superfast Broadband uses fibre optic to the street-level cabinet and then the existing copper wire cable to the home (better known as FTTC), and is available to 95% of UK premises.

Speed achieved depends upon distance from your premise to the cabinet, but typically an average speed of at least 30mbps, up to a maximum of 78Mbps.

Ultrafast Broadband – GFast

Gfast technology using the Fibre to The Cabinet (FTTC) and copper infrastructure boosts average broadband speeds through the telephone wires to speeds up to 314Mbps. Only about 10% of UK homes have access to ultrafast broadband from Openreach. The roll-out has slowed though as greater emphasis is now places on the delivery of full fibre broadband networks.

Full Fibre Broadband – FTTP

Full Fibre (Fibre to The Premises FTTP) uses fibre optic cables from the telephone exchange to the home, with no copper wire required. The Full Fibre network has reached around 3.7 million UK premises, and plans to cover 15 million premises by 2025. Full fibre can deliver average speeds of one gigabit per second, with even higher speeds promised in the future.

So, what’s best for you?

Each type of broadband comes with its own benefits and drawbacks. When choosing a new broadband many people look straight to the download speed of the broadband but fail to recognise the other relevant factors such as the total bandwidth (upload speed as well as download) , and the stability of the broadband service … (you get fewer drops with full fibre versus copper) Our team can guide you in the right direction, and recommend the best suited broadband for you.
